Dear Colleagues,

The Office for Research has established a new internal policy
to better integrate and facilitate the acquisition of imaging
instruments.

Attached please find a copy of the new policy. Briefly, all
federal grant applications for imaging equipment will be
subject to pre-proposal peer review by the NU Imaging Advisory
Committee before approval to submit is granted.

If you are planning on applying for an S10 shared instrument
grant (due in March) to obtain an imaging equipment, please
note:

1. Internal pre-proposals are due January 31, 2010, 5pm via
e-mail to Teng-Leong Chew ([log in to unmask]). This
deadline is FIRM. Pre-proposals will not be reviewed and
approved if submitted after this deadline.

2. If there is internal competition between applications
(such as proposals for two similar confocals), the pre-proposals
will be reviewed and feedback will be provided no later than
February 20, one month before the grant deadline, so that you
will know how best to proceed.

Please note that if you plan to put an instrument in a core
facility, you will need to include the approval and general
budget from the core director. Plan ahead, start early.

Sincerely,

Linda Hicke
