The High Throughput Analysis Laboratory (Evanston campus) is hosting a demo of a label free high throughput system in the week of Feb 20th. This is a multimode plate reader from Perkin Elmer that integrates the CorningĀ® EpicĀ® label-free technology. The Corning Epic system has been on market for a few years but the access is limited by the price tag of $750,000. The Perkin Elmer instrumenthas made this important technology affordable to us.

The technology is capable of detecting molecular interactions such as protein-protein, protein-DNA, protein-small molecule interaction; and of measuring various cellular activities such as cell adhesion, cell barrier function and regulation, cell to-cell communication via direct interactions or chemical communication, cell signaling via the receptor activation by an agonist, viral infection, and cell migration. The detection mechanism is similar to that of SPR but implemented as a high throughput system.

This is a good opportunity to test some the biological systems you use in your research with a label free biosensor. Please let us know if your lab would like to submit samples to test. We only have access to a limited number of label free plates so we are taking sample submissions on a first come first serve basis.
