********** Reminder ****************

You are cordially invited to the International Symposium on "Scanning Probe Microscopy for Energy Application and Quantitative Nano-Biomechanics", Thursday, April 5, 2012 – Friday, April 6, 2012, at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.

This symposium is organized by Northwestern University's NUANCE Center, the International Institute for Nanotechnology (IIN) and Bruker Nano Surfaces Division, as a part of the NUANCE Center's "A Decade of Excellence" initiative.

Plenary Speaker:
    Professor Tobin Marks, Northwestern University, Evanston

Featured Invited Speakers:
    Professor Christophe Gerber, University of Basel, Switzerland
    Professor Mark Hersam, Northwestern University, Evanston
    Professor Christine Ortiz, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge
    Professor Philippe Leclère, Universite de Mons, Belgium
    Professor Toshio Ando, Kanzawa University, Kanzawa, Japan
    Dr. Chanmin Su, Bruker Nano, Santa Barbara, California
    Professor Julius Vancso, University of Twente, Netherlands
    Professor Paul Weiss, University of California, Los Angeles
    Professor Steve Dudek, University of Illinois, Chicago

We trust that you will find that the symposium will provide an informative, intellectually stimulating
and mutually beneficial forum on:

· SPM in Energy Applications: Energy storage, polymers for photovoltaic, mapping of carrier
dynamics and photo induced behavior of photovoltaic materials, energy harvesting and energy
dissipation imaging;
· SPM in Quantitative Nano-Biomechanics: Molecular machines and systems, cells and tissues,
proteins and biomolecular studies. Nanomechanics to develop therapeutic strategies for acute
lung damage and in-vitro imaging;
· Advances in High Speed SPM Instrumentation: High speed AFM, sensing and control methods,
watching real-time biomolecules in action, true 3D nanometrology with controlled environments to
give an SEM-like user experience, walking myosin-realtime, bacteriorhodopsin in response to
light-realtime.
