I remember how Bill was extremely supportive of our early work in the 
70s on sexual development in Dicty when most others weren't interested. 
He saw the potential of comparative studies on alternative life cycles 
and it definitely encouraged me, as a young scientist, to continue with 
that work. He was a creative driving force and will be missed, Dan
