Dear Andrew,

Spores obtained from our wild isolates of D. purpureum are elliptical. A
typical set of measurements made on a clone is: 6.14±0.88µm long and
2.70±0.55µm wide (mean±s.d.). Raper (1984) reported lengths of 5.0-7.2
(ranging up to 8µm) and widths of 2.5-3.2µm.

Our D. giganteum spores, also from wild isolates, are 6.47±0.74µm long and
3.65±0.56µm wide (one clone). There are strain differences; mean lengths
can range from 6-8.6µm and width from 3.6-4.5µm. Raper (1984) found D.
giganteum spores mostly 5.0-6.5µm long and 3.0-3.5µm wide (but not
uncommonly 7.5x4.0µm and occasionally more).

Sincerely,

Santosh Sathe
